Kids Creative in Bronx, NY is looking for one sports activity specialist to join our 31 person strong team. We are located on 1827 Archer Street. Our ideal candidate is a self-starter, punctual, and engaged.

Primary Function: The primary role of the Sports Instructor is to guide students from K-5th Grade as they collaborate to create an original sport or game based on their own ideas and to lead lessons aimed at developing skills and techniques in various forms of sport.  They will rotate between one or more groups throughout the week. The Instructor must ensure that they are meeting each child’s physical, social, and emotional needs during their lessons in accordance to our standards.

Job Responsibilities:

·        Instruct and manage a group of approximately twenty (20) children in gym classes (typically 45min-1 hour in length) that are developmentally appropriate.

·        Manage and supervise a teaching team (group leaders, counselors and interns) where applicable.

·        Introduce students to the basics in various sports and from a variety of cultures

·         Engage students in a process that includes learning and playing a variety of sports, skill and team building activities and brainstorming to create an original sport based upon their ideas (and ideas for their play where applicable) each semester. 

·        The program will culminate each semester with the group creating a new game based on elements and rules from their favorite sports and will invite an audience to watch and/or participate in playing the new game.

·        Create a semester outline and lesson plans that embody the goals of Kids Creative and its partners and share with Kids Creative Program Director.

·        Collaborate with the Education Coordinator to develop semester outlines and lesson plans

·        Share material with Kids Creative each semester.

·        Establish and promote Kids Creative’s “C” Values for community and peace building in the classroom.

·        Communicate with Site Director regarding positive and negative behaviors of children.

·        Attend staff meetings and bi-monthly staff professional developments.


Qualifications: Qualified candidates must:

·      2 years experience working with youth in arts based programs.

·        Have knowledge of a variety of sports and games.

·        Have a strong commitment to youth development.

·        Have experience creating and implementing lesson plans and collaborating with other teachers/artists 

·        Be able to commit to working from October thru June

·        Be amiable to fingerprinting and security clearance by NYC Dept. of Education

·        Display expertise in one or more arts and a love for the creative arts overall

·        Be confident expressing themselves creatively in front of children and can inspire children with their constant creativity

·        Be excellent team players and leaders, able to bring the best out of their co-workers
