Job Description

We are Oddball Eats and have been operating a food truck since September 2015. Before that, we operated out of two major farmers markets in Houston for two years. We will soon be opening in Finn Hall, a new food hall that is coming to downtown Houston. We got our start working at farmers markets which has given us an opportunity to build relationships with farmers and use local, seasonal ingredients. Our food has taken a Mediterranean focus over the last couple of years, and our falafel has become a popular item on our menu (check out our farmers market menu: oddballeats.com/menus). 

With the opening of our new home at Finn Hall, we are looking to build a team of hard-working, versatile individuals. Finn Hall is located downtown at 712 S. Main Street, directly off the light rail. Finn Hall will consist of 10 different restaurants with open kitchens and counter service. This presents a unique opportunity for us because all of our employees will interact with customers and take part in making each customer’s experience great. This also means all employees will be included in a tip pool.

Responsibilities

  • Follow multiple recipes closely while using a scale to weigh out ingredients for each recipe 
  • Wash, trim, and cut vegetables according to each recipe 
  • Trim and slice meats while maintaining a clean work area and preventing cross-contamination 
  • Use a commercial food processor to blend purees, make sauces, and slice vegetables 
  • Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work area 
  • Wash kitchen dishes on a rotation with other kitchen staff (there will be no customer dishes to be washed) 
  • Wash and sanitize your station, leaving it ready for the next shift


Qualifications

  • Cook or Prep Cook experience preferred 
  • Able to work cleanly and demonstrate an understanding of food safety and personal hygiene practices (this is very important) 
  • Able to meet all scheduling commitments (be on time) 
  • Able to anticipate needs in the kitchen and proactively work to meet those needs 
  • Able to prepare food to recipe specifications and be comfortable using a kitchen scale and other commercial equipment 
  • Able to demonstrate a strong attention to detail and learn quickly in new situations 
  • Able to demonstrate knife skills 
  • Food Handler’s License or willingness to obtain one prior to employment

Open 7 days a week---looking for all shifts. M-F Morning/Afternoon, M-F Evening, and Weekend AM and PM crews needed

About Oddball Eats
Oddball Eats is a Mediterranean food truck transitioning into a brick and mortar. We will be moving into Finn Hall—the newest food hall in Downtown Houston. We focus on using lots of fresh produce and as many local ingredients as possible. As we grow, we are looking for great team members to grow with us!
